Indigenous knowledge, traditional knowledge and local knowledge: what is the difference? An informetrics perspective

Purpose This study aims to explore the similarities and differences between three concepts that are commonly used describe knowledge of traditional indigenous communities, namely, knowledge, local with a view contributing discourse on conceptualizing knowledge. Design/methodology/approach Data was extracted from Scopus database using main terms for “indigenous knowledge” (IK), “traditional (TK) “local (LK). were analyzed according themes drawn objectives study, VOSviewer software analytical tool embedded in database. Findings The findings indicate whereas IK LK older than TK, TK has become more visible literature former; there is minimal overlap use labels literature; labels’ largely domiciled social sciences; variations representation countries geographic regions. Practical implications author avers scatter peoples under huge accessibility by stakeholders including researchers, students, information managers service providers. Originality/value demonstrates application informetrics beyond assess trends, nature types research patterns mathematical modeling encompass definition scope as covered literature.
